I-COMM Introduction / John Thompson
I-COMM is a great tool for Communications majors, such as myself, to gain experience in the field they are looking to go into. Some subcategories in the I-COMM program include, working for the Scroll (school newspaper), advertising, public relations, graphic design, I-COMM video productions, I-News, and I-COMM online. Considering each and every Communications major needs to get experience, and experience looks very good on a resume, getting involved in I-COMM is nothing but a good opportunity to do such.

News / Journalism / Lane Williams
I personally found this class particularly interesting since the field of Communications I would like to go into is journalism. The information I learned was very eye opening for me. In fact, it wasn't until this lecture that I knew what I wanted to do as a career. Much of what I discovered is not what one would consider encouraging, such as the salary and the percentage of individuals who are able to find a job in that field of expertise. It is a little daunting, but didn't change my mind about wanting to peruse it.

Video Production / Brian Howard
Video production is a very interesting topic in my opinion. There is so much that can be said and felt through a simple video. At the same time, I don't think it is something I would personally want to go into. I like the way the lecturer explained everything so clearly, and I am sure there are many people who would have a blast in that field of study.

Advertising / Ben Wyeth / Beth Hendricks
Advertising is a great way for businesses and companies to get their information and products seen by the public, and hopefully in particular their target audience. This, as just about everything else in the world, can be done in several various ways. Billboards, something which a person sees nearly everyday as they drive to and from their destinations, are an easy, albeit somewhat expensive way of doing just this. Another big one which the average person sees all the time are the adverts in newspapers and magazines.

Public Relations / PRSSA - Michael Cannon / Ward
If I weren't so sure I wanted to go into journalism, I think that Public Relations would be an interesting alternative. Much like every other subcategory of Communications, Public Relations is difficult to get a job with and the starting salary is relatively low. I think that this hinders quite a few people from going into these fields of study. The interesting thing is that as you are promoted and gain more experience, the salary isn't too shabby. It just takes those first few years of patience.

Visual Communications / Joel Judkins
At the beginning of this class, we started things off a little different than normal. the class was split into two groups, each one being sent to opposite sides of the room. We then debated whether or not visual communication was more or less important than written. As the debate went on for several minutes, we can to the conclusion that visual communication works best hand in hand with written communication. Both play vital, yet different roles in ones life, and in my opinion we could not live as smoothly if one of the two were taken away.

Internships / Lane Muranaka
Internships aren't only a requirement for all Communications majors, but it is also a great way to gain experience before actually going into the workforce. Any resume that states an individual has had an internship automatically makes them look better than otherwise. There are many ways to get an internship, and networking is a great tool in the process of doing it.

Academic Career Advising Center / Adam Ririe
When an individual is just starting off at college on their freshman year, the world seems like a huge place with so many, perhaps seemingly too many, possibilities. It can be a little overwhelming. Being only a freshman myself, I know this feeling. I've known I want to go into Communications for about a year before coming out to BYUI, but I had no idea what I wanted to do with it. At this point, the academic career advising center is a big help. There are people you can talk to, and resources to look at that can help point you in the right direction.

Ethics / Plagiarism / Shane Cole
Plagiarism comes in several different forms. Any time one uses information that was given by another, if they do not cite their source they have plagiarized. This being said, if the information is something that most people would know, such as the 50 states in the United States of America, citing the source from which one gathered this information is not necessary.
The four forms of plagiarism include direct plagiarism, paraphrased plagiarism, plagiarism mosaic, and insufficient acknowledgment. Although in some of these forms, the information used isn’t simply ‘cut and paste’, it is still considered plagiarism.
